The FAA has been struggling with dragons attacking their planes, and hire Dane, a supernatural consultant, to look into the matter. What Dane finds in the woods is not quite the problem he expected: a group of dragon kits and their sick father.

When he learns the real reason the family was in the woods, his case only grows more dangerous, and while Dane is plenty experienced at watching his own back, taking care of baby dragons and their handsome, distracting father almost makes danger look easy.

I really enjoyed this book about Dane, the work that he does and the dragons that he tries to help. It’s cute and adorable with a hint of a darker mystery underneath, and all those dragon kits have very distinct personalities, which I definitely enjoyed.

Dane appears human (except when he forgets) but is clearly hiding plenty as he is very powerful. He’s pretty easy going when it comes to the dragon kits trashing his home, but he’s also determined to protect the supernatural community where he can. He’s a protector without over the top alpha qualities, and I really liked him.

I loved the dragons, especially Lumie the youngest who can get through any ward and frequently turns up hanging onto Dane’s leg – without Dane having a clue how he got there. There’s also Mercury, the dad of the family. He starts off the book sick and slowly recovers throughout the story, and although there are a few scenes from his POV, we don’t really learn all that much about him – except that he’s attracted to Dane and has self-esteem issues. We do learn a bit more about Dane (such as what he is), but I’m hoping that future books will fill in a lot more details about both of them.

If you’re looking for a cute paranormal read with the merest hint of a budding romance, than you’ll definitely get that here. If you like dragons and enjoy a tale with boisterous children with unusual capabilities, then you should enjoy this. I did, and I can’t wait to see where this series heads next.
