What if the person who broke your heart, is the only one who can help you find your future?

Great friends. Amazing Apartment. An incredible job. Paige has ticked off every box on perfect New York life checklist. Until disaster strikes and instead of shimming further up the career ladder, Paige is packing up her desk.

Her brother’s best friend Jake might be the only person who can help her put her life back together. He also happens to be the boy she spent her teen years pining after, and Paige is determined not repeat her past mistakes. But the more time she spends with Jake, the more Paige realises the one thing that was missing from her world all along. The perfect New York love story…

This book filled me with warm and squishy feelings. It just has so many good and wonderful versions of love. Despite losing her job and her childhood health history, Paige is ridiculously lucky in this book. Not only does she have a loving – if slightly overprotective – family, which mostly takes the form of her brother, she also has two amazing, and very different, best friends that she’s known almost her entire life. She is surrounded by love and support and all good things.

Except when it comes to her love life, of course. Which thanks to a teenage disappointment, has sort of been put on hold while she forges a life for herself. Probably not helped by the fact that the man she loved as a teenager also happens to be her brother’s best friend, and takes unnecessary pleasure in winding her up at every opportunity. Yet, without Jake to poke and push her, so much of this book would never happen.

I love that about this pair. Despite the hurts and secrets holding them apart, they’re actually a really good team. They know each other so well that they know exactly which buttons to push to get the right reaction. In Paige’s case, because of her stubbornness, Jake usually has to goad her into action, but it works beautifully. Because this book isn’t just about the romance between the two of them, it’s also about starting a business and following your dreams, and I loved how Paige and her best friends strike out on their own.

In fact, if I’m honest, I possibly liked that side of things more than the romance. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it when Paige and Jake finally got together, but it takes quite a while to get there and it’s so obvious that they’re made for each other – even to them – that Jake’s hesitations felt a bit forced. But that’s the thing about this book, and most of Sarah Morgan’s series, this is more than a romance between two people. It’s about family and friendship and relationships of all kinds, not to mention the myriad bonds that tie them all together. And for me that’s where this book won me over. It’s fun and heartwarming and thoroughly enjoyable and I loved it. I can’t wait for the next one.
