There are certain words that have always described Cam Brantley: Town bad boy. Soldier. Protector. But never, ever dad. Until he returns home from his latest military tour to discover the girl he had one smoking-hot night with is now mom to the adorable two-year-old Zoey. Who has his eyes.

Plenty of words could describe Emma Walker these days. Mom, dutiful granddaughter, budding designer, the town’s golden child. But when her longtime crush Cam Brantley comes back to town, she knows the perfect word to describe herself: screwed.

Cam and Emma are both shocked to discover he truly wants Zoey in his life. But Cam’s not sure he’s ready to be a dad, and Emma can’t gamble her daughter on maybes. As the long-simmering heat between Cam and Emma reaches a boiling point, he’ll have to work past his demons in order to be the man both girls need.

Daddy duty might be his toughest mission yet…

This was a sweet, easy read about a good girl who had one wild night with the local bad boy and ended up pregnant. Except she didn’t find out until he’d been deployed, so has spent the last two years raising her daughter alone, unsure quite how she can tell the father the truth. So far it hasn’t mattered, since Cam’s been overseas, but he’s back now and Emma can’t keep her secret any longer. If only she didn’t know how much Cam didn’t want to have kids…

I really enjoyed this one. Little Zoey is a total cutie and I loved how she won Cam’s heart so easily. I liked both Emma and Cam too, even as they struggle to adjust to their new roles in each other’s lives. Emma is smart and capable, caring and kind, dreaming big dreams and wanting simple things. Cam is more complicated, with his trust issues and his anger worries. I loved how he kept being drawn back to Emma no matter how many times he tried to push her away. The pair of them are great together and I loved the way their relationship grows throughout the book.

If you’re looking for an easy read that tugs on the emotions a little and provides some feel-good smiles, then give this a try. Cam is a little lost and a lot sexy, while Emma is interesting and smart, the romance is given time to grow and the Cam/Zoey scenes are plain adorable. This is my first read from this series and this author, but I have little doubt I’ll be visiting Hope Springs again some time soon.
