First in a wickedly funny new series brimming with mystery and romance!

Piper Summers works like a dog juggling three jobs to put herself through veterinary school—driving taxis, delivering pizzas, and singing telegrams. Thankfully, Piper has her devoted dachshund Colin to help her keep things in line. That is, until she gets fired…and someone throws her a bone that is too good to resist.

Aiden Caldwell is an Armani ad come to life—a billionaire CEO who’s just adopted a dachshund from the rescue center where Piper volunteers. He’s hot on Piper’s tail to be his personal dog walker…but he may be after more than a walker for his wiener. The gorgeous, spirited Piper is everything he’s ever wanted from a woman—and more. But can Piper ever love, and trust, a man who has never learned to open his heart—or has she bitten off more than she can chew?

This was so cute. Piper is something of a walking disaster, juggling so many different balls all at once that it’s no wonder she keeps dropping things. Not only is she almost finished in studying to be a vet – and working at a local clinic to log her necessary hours – she’s also working three separate jobs – pizza delivery, taxi driver, singing telegram – as the book starts. All so she can pay for her tuition and hopefully have enough left over to pay the rent and bills. She also volunteers at the local dog rescue shelter, because free time is for wimps.

Unsurprisingly, she simply cannot keep up with all of this. Which is where Aidan steps in, a man who seems too good to be true, even if he does see-saw between flirtatious banter and solemn handshakes, and has more than a faint hint of a modern day Mr Darcy. He’s a tricky guy to make out: rich, successful, friendly, no nonsense, strict, generous and all around confusing. As if Piper doesn’t have enough to worry about.

But just when the romance seems to be settled into a cute will-they-won’t-they round of fun times and amusing mishaps, things take a turn for the mysterious as it seems that someone is out to get Piper. Or close the shelter. Or both.

There are times when it does all venture towards unbelievable territory as Piper seems to gather enemies from all sides – when the rest of the time she seems fun, friendly and generous – but the action definitely keeps things zipping along. The numerous suspects help keep things mysterious as everything builds and builds towards the end, with secrets being kept and trouble brewing a plenty.

In all it’s fun and intriguing, sometimes silly, with a flirtatious feel and so many cute dogs. Colin is a real star, but the other canines have distinct personalities that made them more than just background props, and the humans were pretty good too. Well, apart from the baddies, a few of whom were definite clichés. However, on the whole this was great. If you’re looking for something light, cute and amusing, with a bit of a mystery and a rich hero who isn’t a playboy with issues, then give this a go. I’m glad I did, and I can’t wait to read the next one.
