Title: One Sexy Mistake
Author: Sarah Ballance
Series: Chase Brothers #5
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Available: 28th Nov
Olivia Patton’s life just imploded. One night with sexy hacker Grady Donovan seems like the perfect, ego-soothing plan—until an epic snowstorm shuts down the city and thwarts her morning-after escape. Now the only walk-of-shame she’ll be taking is right back to Grady’s door.
Forced to actually talk, Grady and Olivia realize they can’t stand each other. Forget another round in the bedroom—if it wasn’t his apartment, she’d shove Grady outside to freeze. But with all the blistering sexual tension flying around, a second night with the hacker might be exactly what she needs…if they don’t kill each other first.

Although all the Chase brothers are now happily paired off, this series returns for one last hurrah, with a romantic comedy tale about brother-in-law Grady and his attempt at a one night stand. There is snow, there is geek-talk (and Star Wars mocking) and the return of Hell Cat from Five Things I Love About You (which wasn’t something I knew I needed, but I loved seeing that cat again). This book stands alone perfectly well if you’re new to the series, but it’s also something of an unexpected bonus for fans like me.
And for the most part it was fun. Grady is anti-romance, anti-relationships and just wants a no-hassle hookup – but he’s also surprisingly thoughtful and caring and cute, and it’s soon clear he has a few scars that have made him this way. I liked him – well, until the secret thing, which knocked him down a few points. I got why things had to happen that way, but I’d rather Grady hadn’t chosen that option.
I found Olivia a little harder to like at times, mostly because of how prickly she gets when nervous. I also wasn’t that fond of the way she blames an unknown hacker for doing their job. Yes, it cost her her own job, but the hacker wasn’t at fault. The person who released her software early was the one who lost her the job, and I got annoyed with the way she redirected the blame at times. I also found her romantic movie obsession didn’t quite fit with the way she acts most of the time. However, she can also be witty and funny and the way she and Grady connect on several levels was good to read.
Along with Grady’s secret there are a lot of coincidences that stack up in this book and neither character is given as much depth as I might have liked. However, there is also quite an ending. Which is over the top and funny and cheesy and everything that this book was about.
So overall this was quick and cute and fun. If you like your romance to be light and fluffy and firmly set in a rom-com world, then give this a go. It might not have been my favourite from the series, but it provided a nice unexpected send-off to these characters. I look forward to seeing what Sarah Ballance comes up with next.
