City attorney Garrett Miles is a man who is happy with his life. He’s effective, well liked and enjoys his moments with the gorgeous waitress Libby at the local tavern. Suddenly finding out he’s a father, and that the little girl is coming to live with him throws a bit of a spanner in the works. Turning to Libby Carter for guidance could be the ideal solution, but there are some things the single mother isn’t sharing.

Libby fled with her son to escape her abusive ex. She’s hoping the close-knit Oklahoma small town will be the place where she can finally stop running. Especially now that Garrett’s in her life. But Garrett is a lawyer, and if he discovers she violated her custody agreement and crossed state lines, he’ll have to turn her in.

After one man nearly destroyed her, can she trust another with her son’s life?

This is a new cover on an old story (from 2011), with the same title and blurb, with nothing new or different, taken out of its original series and put into another linked by a similar theme: fatherhood. Having said that, I’ve not read any of the rest of the Hearts of Desperation series and I got along just fine.

I really enjoyed this. It’s sweet and clean, with likeable characters and emotional situations. Garrett might not have been looking for deeper commitments in his busy life, but I loved the way he instantly stepped up for little Sophie. I also liked how he tried to help Libby without taking over. Plus his relationship with Noah is great.

I liked Libby too, though she has a lot to work through. Her trust issues are understandable, but she’s still a great mother and the way she cares for Sophie too is lovely. They’re a great team and I enjoyed seeing all four of them form bonds and come together.

Of course, it’s not all plain sailing with a troublesome past and a not-perfect present, but if you like sweet romances with cute kids and people slowly falling in love through shared troubles, then you might enjoy this. I know I did.

Bachelor Dad is Out Now.
