Title: Fighting For You
Author: Megan Derr
Series: Lifesworn #2
Genre: M/M/M Fantasy Romance
Length: Short novel
All Penli wants to be is left alone. After nearly a decade of blood, violent soldiering, and a lifetime of enduring his cold, ambitious family, it’s almost a relief to be practically alone in the middle of a desert kingdom with no way to return home because of the warrant out for his arrest.
The very last thing he needs is to be consumed by a fit of honor and nobility—but he would much rather die than ever see the two sweet, intriguing men who cross his path forced apart, one to be thrown to the streets, the other to marry a malicious bully Penli has despised for years.
Though he means only to free them, having no desire to marry after barely escaping one unwanted marriage, with each passing day Penli fears the only thing more difficult than throwing his life away will be resisting the urge to build a new one with two men he barely knows.

This book is adorable – Penli is adorable. There really is no other way I can describe it, even though it also has three-way menage sex scenes and Penli would quite like to kill his horrible rival. But still, the whole thing is ridiculously cute and sweet and adorable.
Admittedly, it’s all about Penli and the two men he’s fighting for and hopes to marry don’t really get much personality to share between them. They are younger than him, but I have no idea by how much, and despite them being widely travelled, they’re sweetly naive and willing to let Penli handle everything. It might have been nice if there had been more life to either/both of them.
However, this is all about Penli and I liked him enough that I didn’t mind the lack in the others. Or, really, the lack of background for him. There are details there, but I definitely felt like I was missing a fair few things because I haven’t read book one. Again, I didn’t mind, because I liked Penli. Did I mention that yet?
Ah, Penli. An incredible soldier and nobleman who is tired of killing and who really, really, really likes his clothes. Those who don’t know him well dismiss him as a flimsy fop, but he is so much more than this – while also being exactly as he portrays himself. I love that looking good isn’t an artifice for him; he’s not playing a part, he really is that vain, but he’s also strong and ruthless when he has to be. There are so many facets to him, and although some of his moping got close to annoying, he’s adorable and I forgave him most of his foolishness.
So, as I said, this is very sweet (with sex, so not that kind of sweet romance). Penli is adorable and this book is all Penli, romantic yet cynical, vain but honourable Penli. It’s a classic Megan Derr tale and, despite its drawbacks, I found it a thoroughly enjoyable read. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more.
